The descriptions that follow are intended to educate patients about some of the more common procedures we offer. Please be aware that each person's desires and medical factors influence what may be possible in each individual case.
All surgery entails some risk, however slight. Any patient considering surgery should have a discussion of the expected risks and benefits of the procedure with their surgeon prior to embarking upon a course of surgical treatment. A Web site cannot, and should not, be a substitute for personal consultation with your plastic surgeon.

Abdominoplasty

Before |

After |
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is an operation designed to firm and smooth the abdomen. There are lots of reasons patients seek this surgery. Many patients desire abdominoplasty after completing childbearing, others following weight loss with resulting sagging skin. Still others simply wish a more youthful abdomen or a more "tight" contour. The happiest patients are the ones who desire abdominoplasty to tighten the tummy and get rid of extra fat and skin. Surgery will remove sagging skin and extra fat and allow a person to look as sleek as they feel.
The smaller, mini-tummy tuck procedure with liposuction often gives good results to some patients. Liposuction alone can sometimes be enough to improve the abdomen. A consultation will give you the information to decide if liposuction is the appropriate procedure for your desired outcome.

Breast Augmentation

Before |

After |
Also called augmentation mammaplasty, or breast implants, this involves placing implants underneath the breasts to increase their size and/or alter their shape. Women may request augmentation to enhance their breast size, correct the changes that occur following pregnancy or correct asymmetry. The best candidates for the procedure are women who wish to change their appearance for enhanced self-confidence or personal gratification.
Augmentation mammaplasty is performed on an outpatient basis (i.e. same day surgery). The incisions used to place the implants can be under the breast or around the areola (nipple). The implant itself is placed underneath the breast, with choices to be made regarding the type of implant and location of the implant/muscle.

Breast Reduction

Before |

After |
Also called reduction mammaplasty, this is a surgery to reduce the size of the breasts. Large breasts can cause a variety of physical problems, from back and shoulder pain to skin rashes and shoulder ruts. Many women find that very large breasts limit their physical activity. Reduction mammaplasty usually improves or eliminates these symptoms. As such, reduction mammaplasty is considered treatment for these problems rather than cosmetic surgery. In addition to the relief of physical discomfort, most women experience improved confidence and better posture.
Surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis (i.e. same day surgery). The relief of symptoms coupled with the improved self-confidence make this one of the most gratifying procedures for many women.

Breast Lift
Also called mastopexy, this procedure is designed to lift and restore a rounded shape to the breasts. This procedure is often performed to correct drooping. The surgery involves removing excess skin from the breast and moving the nipple to a more natural position on the breast. The result is a breast that is positioned more naturally on the chest wall with a more youthful shape than before the surgery.

Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction, or rebuilding the breast following mastectomy, is a surgery that many women desire. The reconstructive surgery can sometimes be performed at the same time as the mastectomy. If not, it can be performed at a later date. It depends on the size and type of the tumor and the type of treatment anticipated to cure the disease. The reconstruction can be done with implants or with your own body tissue. There are many variables involved in deciding on an approach that best fits a woman's goals and lifestyle. We are happy to consult with a patient whether you are ready for surgery or simply want to explore options for consideration at a later date.

Eyelid Surgery

Before |

After |
Also called blepharoplasty, it is the surgical correction of drooping or sagging eyelids. It can help people look more rested and youthful. The surgery can be done on the upper and/or lower eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery can often be performed in the office, if desired.

Facelift, Facial Resurfacing

Before |

After |
Sun damage, exposure to cigarette smoke, and aging all contribute to the creases and sagging skin associated with advancing age. Facelift surgery can help to minimize these changes and result in a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance. Facelift, or rhytidectomy, is surgery designed to remove the wrinkles and tighten the skin of the face.
Facelift surgery is performed through incisions behind the hairline and around the ear. Skin is removed and facial muscle tightened, resulting in smoother skin with less drooping. Other procedures, such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), brow lift or neck liposuction can be performed at the same time and add to the overall improvement.

Forehead Lift
With time, most people notice forehead wrinkles and drooping of the eyebrows. A forehead lift, or browlift, can reduce these age-associated changes and restore a more youthful, energetic appearance. If people often tell you that you look tired when you are not, a browlift may be for you.
The surgery is performed with incisions hidden in the hairline. The small muscles and extra skin that cause wrinkling are divided or removed and the skin tightened.

Liposuction

Before |

After |
Often the most commonly requested aesthetic procedure, liposuction can offer improved body contour and reduction of fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction corrects focal areas of fat deposition and contour deformities. Common sites that respond well to liposuction include the hips, thighs, buttocks, chin, neck, flanks and abdomen.
The surgery is generally performed on a day surgery basis. Compressive elastic garments are placed after the surgery and usually worn for several weeks.

General Advice for Surgery
Wear comfortable clothes. We recommend wearing clothing that is easy to get in and out of. Sweatpants and loose, button-up shirts are ideal for most procedures. Avoid pull-over shirts for breast and abdominal procedures. Slip-on shoes or athletic shoes with velcro are advisable as well. We recommend that you do not wear makeup the day of your surgery, although nail polish need not be removed. |
